Archive for June 2017On Board Diagnostics for Herndon MotoristsPosted June 25, 2017 8:03 AMSome Herndon vehicle owners wonder why McLearen Shell and other Herndon auto repair shops charge a fee for vehicle diagnostics. Receiving a diagnostic charge at McLearen Shell for a tricky automotive problem shouldn't be a surprise. In the Herndon area, automotive diagnostics can cover quite a range. If you hear a noise in your vehicle brakes when you slow down in rush-hour traffic on a busy VA road, you pull off at the next off-ramp and take a quick visual check. That is usually enough to know what needs to be done. If you're having an intermittent problem with your vehicle engine, however, a McLearen Shell diagnosis may be much more involved. There's a common misconception among VA drivers that the trouble code tells the McLearen Shell technician exactly what's wrong. They wonder why there is a diagnostic charge because the scanner quickly gave the diagnosis. In reality, it is not that easy and straightforward. The computer monitors many sensors throughout the vehicle. When one of these sensors has a reading that's out of parameters, the computer will record a trouble code and turn on the Check Engine light. Some diagnoses are quick and easy. Others are more involved, time-consuming and difficult. Of course McLearen Shell wants to figure out what's wrong with your vehicle and get you back on the road as quickly as possible. McLearen Shell Custom Wheels and Tires for Your Herndon RidePosted June 20, 2017 1:45 AM
It seems like everywhere you go in the Herndon area you see custom wheels. Big trucks, little cars, mini-vans - it doesn't matter - are expressing themselves with custom wheels. Some VA auto owners want smaller tires and wheels - some want larger - and some want them enormous. So where do you start if you want new wheels? At McLearen Shell, we suggest you start with your budget. We know, that sounds so practical. But if the look you're after goes beyond just new tires and wheels and enters into the world of suspension modifications, you need to be prepared for the additional cost. So, what about Herndon drivers who want to upsize? Well, if you want bigger wheels, but you want to keep the same overall tire diameter, that's pretty easy for the team at McLearen Shell. The same offset concerns apply. You need to know that the tires will likely be a little bit wider than the originals and you don't want them to rub when you make sharp turns. Your tire professional at McLearen Shell in Herndon will help you avoid this. McLearen Shell Fuel Injection: It Keeps Getting Better for Herndon DriversPosted June 11, 2017 7:16 AMHerndon residents know that engines need to burn fuel to operate. Fuel is pumped from your fuel tank to your vehicle engine where it is squirted—or injected—into your engine's cylinders. This is the function of the fuel injectors. McLearen Shell Power Steering Service at McLearen Shell in HerndonPosted June 5, 2017 8:52 AMMany Herndon drivers have been hearing about technological advances in power steering, specifically electric power steering. Some very high-end cars have been featuring electric power steering. Power steering fluid has the necessary hydraulic properties and the ability to lubricate the internal parts. The power steering fluid also protects vehicle components from rust and corrosion. See if you notice any of these: play in the steering wheel, the steering wheel is off center, or there's a noise coming from your front wheels, especially when turning. If so, have your friendly and knowledgeable McLearen Shell service advisor do an inspection so the problem can be corrected. Waiting too long could cause uneven tire wear and may even lead to steering failure. Give us a call. McLearen Shell | ||

Excellent work. Josh always does all the maintenance for my Porsche, VW Taureg, and Subi Outback. I can always count on him doing what is needed and never trying to upcharge me for work that is not needed. Jack, 11/30/2021 |
Took our Acura RDX in for brake service today. The staff at McLearen Shell did an excellent job, replacing the front discs & rotors. They advised that the rear pads still had 50% material remaining. Have had a variety of automobiles serviced at this service station over the last 25 years and there service remains outstanding and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
